SOLA

“When It’s on You, They’ll Find You”

When someone enters the water, or works in darkness, seconds matter, and safety gear often depends on batteries, switches, or deliberate action.

BioGlo SOLA™ is a battery-free, mechanically activated bioluminescent wearable patch that is engineered for wearable garments to provide automatic, 360° visibility the moment it is immersed or deployed.

No batteries.
No switches.
No dependence on flotation gear.

What is SOLA?

SOLA™ is a self-contained, wearable bioluminescent signaling patch designed to integrate with non-inflatable safety gear, including:

  • Immersion suits
  • Survival suits
  • Work vests and foul-weather gear
  • Harnesses, belts, and PPE
  • Aviation and industrial safety apparel

SOLA attaches directly to the wearer or garment and remains dormant during storage.

Upon water contact, pressure, or mechanical activation, SOLA initiates a sealed BRET-enhanced bioluminescent reaction.

The result:
A bright, omnidirectional light source that makes the wearer clearly visible to vessels, aircraft, and shoreline responders even in darkness, fog, rain, or heavy seas.

Why SOLA Exists?

Not every environment allows, or requires, a PFD.

But visibility is still critical.

Existing wearable safety lights fail under real-world conditions:
  • Batteries corrode, discharge, or fail in storage
  • Manual lights require conscious activation
  • LEDs provide narrow, directional output
  • Glow sticks are short-lived and unreliable

For workers, pilots, divers, and responders, visibility must be worn not switched on.

SOLA™ delivers autonomous visibility without electronics and without user action that can be customized for specific situational requirements.

How SOLA Works?

  1. Immersion or deployment occurs. The wearer enters water or a low-visibility environment.
  2. Mechanical activation triggers SOLA. Water contact, pressure, or motion mechanically actuates the patch - no batteries, no wiring, no electronics.
  3. BRET-enhanced bioluminescence is initiated. Stabilized enzyme–substrate chemistry generates intense blue-green light, spectrally enhanced via BRET for improved detectability.
  4. Light radiates omnidirectionally. The wearer becomes a clearly visible point of reference detectable from air, sea, and shore.

A single patch turns the wearer into a signal that cuts through darkness.

Designed for Real-World Rescue

SOLA™ is built for environments where wearable visibility saves lives:

  • Night operations

  • Offshore and industrial work zones

  • Rain, fog, and spray

  • Unwitnessed water entry events

  • Aviation ditching and survival scenarios

The system assumes no user participation and no ideal conditions because emergencies never do.

Visibility, Worn

BioGlo SOLA™ turns the wearer into the signal without flotation, electronics, or manual activation.

It is the most flexible, scalable way to deliver autonomous rescue visibility wherever people work, travel, or survive near water.
