HALO
“A Survival Beacon Born from the Sea”
When someone goes overboard, seconds matter and batteries, switches, and user action often fail.
BioGlo HALO™ is a battery-free, mechanically activated bioluminescent lighting system that automatically illuminates a Type V inflatable PFD the moment it deploys, delivering 360° visibility throughout the entire bladder in the most critical minutes of a rescue.
No charging.
No switches.
No dependence on consciousness.

What is HALO?
HALO™ is an OEM-integrated bioluminescent illumination system designed specifically for auto-inflating personal flotation devices.
When the PFD inflates, HALO activates instantly using internal mechanical pressure to initiate a stabilized bioluminescent reaction that fills the inflatable bladder with uniform light.
The result:
A bright, omnidirectional glow that makes a person in the water visible from boats, helicopters, and shore even in darkness, fog, rain, or rough seas.
Why HALO Exists?
Traditional PFD lights fail when they’re needed most:
-
Batteries corrode, discharge, or die in storage
-
Manual switches can’t be used by unconscious victims
-
LEDs create narrow, directional points of light
-
Glow sticks are short-lived, unreliable, and need manual activation.
HALO™ solves these failures with physics, chemistry, and design - not electronics.
How HALO Works?
-
Water immersion triggers inflation. Standard CO₂ inflators deploy the PFD as usual.
-
Inflation pressure activates HALO. Bladder expansion mechanically triggers a sealed bioluminescent cartridge - no water ingress, no electronics.
-
Bioluminescent light fills the bladder. Stabilized enzyme-substrate chemistry produces intense blue-green light, reflected and diffused internally.
-
360° visibility, instantly
The entire inflated bladder becomes a glowing beacon, visible from every angle.
